VOSJ: Jackass of the Week

This morning, word spilled out that NY Jets wideout Braylon Edwards was arrested in New York last night for DWI. Sources report that Edwards tested at twice the legal limit for blood alcohol content.

This seems a fitting end to a typically selfish couple of days for the 2005 first round draft pick out of Michigan. Even in his most productive moments in Sunday's showdown with the rival Patriots, Edwards could not help himself from behaving like a spoiled, childish thug. He writhed and preened in the face of New England DB Darius Butler after his game-tying touchdown in the 2nd quarter (earning a 15-yard personal foul penalty and costing the Jets precious field position in the ensuing drives, which arguably led to the Patriots' go-ahead touchdown with just under 2 minutes remaining in the half). He then made a nearly identical fool of himself after a hard-fought and critical 2nd half reception, and it was dumb luck that prevented him from being flagged yet again.

It seems that nothing is ever more important to Braylon Edwards than Braylon Edwards. If the Jets harbor legitimate title hopes, the organization would be wise to part ways with this selfish, chronically under-performing clown.

  1. Randy Moss would be runner up, blaming the team's "heart"? how about catch a couple more passes?

  2. I would vote for Andy Reid. The NFL is trying to protect players from concussions. Kolb gets a concussion and due to the new rules has to sit out a game. What do the Eagles then do? They strip him of his job as starter. Although Vick has performed well, what kind of message does the demotion of Kolb send? It tells every player that if you want to keep your job, keep your concussion quiet.

  3. Summa, you make a very good point. However, at the same time, don't you want to give your team the best chance to win games week in and week out? If Vick is the better option then he should continue to play regardless of how he got the job in the first place. It is unfortunate, yes, but a clear cut decision in my mind.
